Celebrating 20 Years of Industry Leadership by Giving Back

As PenChecks celebrates its 20th year as the leading provider of benefit distribution services, we feel the time is right to give something back to the industry that has contributed so much to our success. That’s why we’re honored to partner with two of the most important associations in our industry – ASPPA and NIPA – to sponsor two annual scholarship programs designed to support the educational development of retirement plan professionals.

  • ASPPA QKA Scholarship. Created to assist retirement plan professionals in obtaining certification for the Qualified 401(k) Administrator (QKA) credential program, this scholarship will be awarded to four individuals annually who have demonstrated how the QKA designation will enhance their career in the retirement plan industry. The scholarship will cover the expenses associated with all classes and course materials necessary to receive the QKA credential.
  • Upon successful completion of all exams and earning the credential, PenChecks will also sponsor the recipient’s first year of ASPPA membership. The value of each scholarship, including membership, is $2,500. This year’s recipients will be announced at the annual ASPPA Conference, which will take place on October 26-29 in Washington, D.C.
  • NIPA APA Designation Scholarship. Awarded to six individuals each year, this $1,000 scholarship will assist industry professionals in completing the Accredited Pension Administrator (APA) designation program. To qualify, applicants must work for a firm that has a current NIPA business owner member, and may not have previously enrolled or started taking any of their APA exams.

Once a scholarship recipient successfully completes all four APA exams and earns their designation, PenChecks will cover the NIPA Business Owner or Executive member fee for the first year of membership – an additional value of up to $550.

The QKA credential takes approximately two years to complete, and involves a rigorous program that covers the full scope of retirement plan administration, from determining eligibility and allocating contributions to reporting and disclosure requirements, processing distributions, pension plan compliance, and more. The NIPA APA designation requires passing four rigorous exams designed to improve the quality and efficiency of plan administration by NIPA members. Both designations play an important role in supporting a strong and vital retirement plan industry.

To further our commitment to industry education, PenChecks will be continuing the Educational Webinar Series we introduced last year. These 30-minute webinars cover a variety of retirement plan topics and are designed to advance the knowledge level of retirement plan professionals regarding the key challenges and issues facing our industry.
