A former risk analyst for a leading financial services risk management and regulatory compliance consulting firm, Lydia brings a well-rounded track record of C-level business development and sales experience to PenChecks. Her background in sales, marketing and financial services, along with her academic training in economics, make her ideally suited to helping retirement plan sponsors, TPAs, and other financial institutions resolve their benefits distribution challenges. Lydia’s sales and business development experience includes positions with The Helm Society, LEAP Education Programs, and the Promontory Financial Group, where she reviewed the largest U.S. mortgage servicer’s underwriting decisions for loan modifications pertaining to the OCC Independent Foreclosure Review.
Lydia graduated from Middlebury College in Vermont with a degree in economics and minors in studio art and sociology, and also attended classes at the University of Nottingham in the U.K. She loves to cook, paint and travel.
Smart, outgoing, and personable, Lydia loves to do two things that make her well suited for the role of Regional Sales Director – travel and help people solve problems. So when she first met PenChecks Trust President Peter Preovolos, he was so impressed he offered her a job on the spot. Lydia came aboard in early 2015, and fit right in with the sales team.
“I joined PenChecks Trust for several reasons,” she says. “The company serves a real need in the industry. I liked the family culture and the commitment to customer service. And Peter impressed me as a leader who isn’t afraid to take risks. I could see the business reflected his commitment to creating positive change, and I knew I would feel at home working here.”
No Problem Too Small to Handle
Lydia employs a consultative approach when working with prospective and current clients. Her primary goal is to build long-term relationships by understanding clients’ business goals and any distribution problems they may have. She then identifies an area of immediate need and recommends the appropriate PenChecks Trust service to resolve it.
For example, Lydia recently talked to a plan sponsor who kept a plan running for several years because he couldn’t locate two participants. She introduced him to PenChecks Trust’s Default IRA program, and he was able to safely terminate the plan and remove it from the company’s books.
Another client wanted to push more than 100 missing participants out their plan, but balked at the time and effort to conduct participant searches, send out certified letters, and everything else involved in the process. Lydia recommended PenChecks Trust’s Missing Participant service, which saved the client time and money while helping to safely remove the missing participants from the plan.
Lydia is most proud of PenChecks Trust’s commitment to delivering the same level of service to all clients – no matter how large or small.
“Smaller companies sometimes worry they might get lost in the shuffle,” she says, “so I let them know they can’t have a problem too small for us to handle. Some of these clients have been so pleased with our service they even referred us to one of their competitors.”
Keeping Up with Industry Changes
Lydia also sees her role as helping clients adjust to the constant change in the retirement industry.
“In our industry, we constantly have to learn new things and adapt to change, much of it driven by government regulations,” she says. “When I see clients struggling with new issues, I work with them to make sure they understand the new regulation or whatever it might be. I also communicate the issue to our management team so we can begin devising solutions in response to the change. And that’s one area where PenChecks Trust truly excels – coming up with new products and services to address our clients’ evolving needs.”
When not traveling on or off the job, Lydia loves to paint (mostly acrylics), cook, and host dinner parties for her friends. She feels lucky to work in an industry that keeps her intellectually stimulated while allowing her to talk to people about their values, interests and personal lives as part of her job.
