Chief Technology Officer (CTO)
An experienced technologist with a diverse background, David has held senior leadership positions for many successful startups, including several in fintech. At each step of his career, he has gained experience and expertise in the development and management of enterprise software architecture, as well as strategic planning and resource management. As CTO for PenChecks, David oversees development and quality assurance of the company’s software systems, including P3 and the National Registry of Unclaimed Retirement Benefits (NRURB). David also manages all back-end infrastructure for the PenChecks technology systems, and works with the consulting team to improve the responsiveness and reliability of all PenChecks software. David will also focus on using the skills he honed in the rapidly-evolving gift card payment space to develop game-changing technical service offerings for PenChecks clients and the retirement distribution industry as a whole.
David Peace differs from many technologists in one very important way – he “gets” computers and people. Which makes him the ideal CTO for a company like PenChecks, where the development of innovative software goes hand in hand with delivering world-class customer service to our clients.
Before joining PenChecks, David developed his technology chops by serving on the management teams of many successful startups. These included Skinit, a maker of phone cases and decal skins; Zingle, an enterprise B2C software service; and Bitmo, a peer-to-peer gift card platform. David also held key technology roles with several startups in the financial services industry. This unique background, which includes experience in both B2B and B2C markets, makes him well-suited for understanding and supporting the needs of PenChecks’ diverse client base.
“PenChecks has been around for 25 years, but the organization still has the spirit of a startup,” says David. “They put high value on innovation, moving quickly, and creating a world-class experience for their clients. I was attracted to the company and its culture from the start.”
Leading PenChecks and the Industry into the Future
As CTO, David must balance short-term and long-term perspectives on PenChecks’ technology systems. He defines his primary role as ensuring all PenChecks software systems, both internal and client-facing, are fast, responsive, and easy to use day in and day out. At the same time, he keeps one eye on the future as well.
David sees financial services evolving into an industry where integration between different service providers will play a key role in providing the products and services clients need. Accordingly, a significant part of his time and resources will be devoted to developing enterprise software that elevates the level of service provided not just by PenChecks but by the industry as a whole.
“I’m hyper-focused on making sure PenChecks software meets the needs of our clients as well as our internal needs,” adds David. “Looking ahead, I believe financial services providers will need software platforms that allow for greater integration of information and processes throughout the industry. I look forward to continuing PenChecks’ long history of developing innovative software that supports this goal.”
Shining Light(s) for a Good Cause
When not in the office, David spends time with his family. He especially enjoys playing board games with his wife of 15 years and three sons, aged 13, 11 and 3. During the holiday season he puts his technology skills to use in a very meaningful way by creating a gigantic animated holiday lighting display synchronized to music.
Called “The Peace Family Light Show,” the display attracts thousands of visitors each year, and in 2018 was featured on ABC’s The Great Christmas Light Fight program. More important, the display helps raise money for Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego. To date, the Peace family has raised nearly $10,000 for this great community cause.
