Southern Regional Director
Chip Davis brings nearly 30 years’ experience in sales, marketing, and corporate training to his role as PenChecks Trust’s Southern Regional Director. Early in his career, he served as a loan officer, loan processor and corporate trainer in the mortgage industry. He transitioned to the retirement plan industry in 2007, working as a sales account manager with SunGard Relius, and more recently as an account manager for FIS Relius. In this role, Chip worked with the entire spectrum of retirement plan providers, marketing Relius documents, government forms, and administration compliance and recordkeeping software.
With his background in marketing and knowledge of the retirement plan space, he is uniquely suited to tailoring PenChecks Trust product and service solutions to the needs of our clients. Chip graduated from the University of North Florida with a B.A. in Business Administration, Marketing. He enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, coaching and participating in sports, and reading.
Chip held many positions at several different companies throughout his 30-year pre-PenChecks Trust career, most of them at large companies. When his previous place of employment was bought by a much larger company and the opportunity to join PenChecks Trust became available, Chip jumped at the opportunity.
“I knew and respected several members of the PenChecks Trust management team,” he recalls. “I liked the family ownership and close-knit culture within the company. And the owner’s philosophy of always doing the right thing for clients really resonated with me. The position seemed like a good fit with my background, and after only a few months on the job I knew I made the right decision.”
A large part of Chip’s responsibilities as Southern Regional Director involves the process of introducing PenChecks Trust products and services to potential and existing clients. But he sees himself as more of a problem solver and story teller than a salesman. In fact, he finds the most rewarding part of the job is working with plan sponsors and TPA service providers to uncover the problems they experience around retirement plan distributions and take their pain away by providing customized solutions to their needs. Part of that process involves telling the PenChecks Trust story so clients understand the full breadth and scope of what the company has to offer.
“We do so much more than just cut pension checks and file tax forms,” Chip explains, “and that’s part of what attracted me to the job. We’re not just a one-trick pony. From missing participant searches to managing uncashed checks and creating AutoRollover IRA accounts, we offer a variety of solutions that enable our clients to outsource many of the tedious but necessary administrative tasks they don’t like to do and don’t do very efficiently. This gives them more time and resources to focus on growing revenue-generating services for their clients.
A resident of Jacksonville, Florida, Chip is a staunch supporter of the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Florida State University football teams. When he’s not cheering them on at the games, he remains quite active with a variety of outdoor activities. A proud father of two, Chip’s oldest son just graduated from college and is preparing to launch a career, while his younger daughter is just starting college. Chip volunteers his time to support church activities, and when he needs some down time, he buries himself in a good book.
The best advice he ever received? Treat people right in life and you’ll do all right – a philosophy he adheres to every morning when he heads out the door to set about his PenChecks Trust day.
