Bryan Pruden, MBA
Chief Operating Officer
As the newest member of the PenChecks Trust leadership team, COO Bryan Pruden oversees the company’s day-to-day operations, as well as the Finance and Human Resources functions. Over the past 20 years, he has served in a variety of management capacities, including Controller and Employee Productivity Director for Intel Corporation, Vice President and Corporate Group Controller for SAIC, and COO and CFO for Celergy Networks, a national provider of IT services. Most recently, Bryan managed a variety of operational functions and was the CFO for Care Innovations, an Intel/Roche- backed company with regulated products in the healthcare industry. He led Care Innovations through multiple funding rounds and a period of high growth. Bryan’s operational and financial management experience in the technology sector fit in perfectly with the PenChecks business model of using proprietary technology to deliver fast, efficient retirement benefit distributions. Additionally, he brings the experience of managing high growth within a heavily regulated industry.
Bryan holds an MBA from Indiana University, and is very active in the San Diego area community. His service commitments have included positions as Board President & CFO of Solana Beach Schools Foundation, and a Board Member of Solana Beach Community Foundation and the Magdalena Ecke YMCA.
As Vice President and Corporate Group Controller for SAIC, Bryan led the financial planning function for all corporate departments, analyzed financial results, and tracked monthly financials. He also developed forecasts and budgets while identifying potential risks and opportunities for the $9 billion technology integrator and government contracting firm. Positions with other companies also included high-level financial responsibilities.
Yet, Bryan has always aspired to be more than just a number cruncher. Taking on the role of COO for PenChecks Trust has given him the ideal opportunity to put all his skills and experience to work.
“I’ve always had a passion for the entirety of the business,” says Bryan. “Although I’ve been heavily involved with the finance side in my previous companies, I’ve always looked at the finance area as a means to an end, not an end in itself. It gave me great exposure to all parts of the business, afforded me a seat at the table with the management team, and allowed me to have influence across all the different functions. As a result, I’m better prepared to oversee the operational functions that have been handed to me at PenChecks.”
A Focus on Service and Growth
Bryan was initially attracted to PenChecks due to founder and Chairman Peter Preovolos’ entrepreneurial experience and his vision for the company. PenChecks’ strong leadership team and its commitment to customer service sealed the deal.
“I see customer service as a real advantage for PenChecks and a driver of our future growth,” says Bryan. “As we grow in the years ahead, a large part of my job will be ensuring we continue to deliver the level of service our clients and the participants expect from us. That will require introducing new products and services to keep up with changing client needs, and making sure we have the people, technology and processes in place to make working with us fast, simple and cost-effective.”
Work Hard, Play Hard
A high-energy person on and off the job, Bryan loves exercising in the great outdoors, and has completed a number of triathlons and marathons, including the venerated Boston Marathon. His commitment to quality family time fits in well with his passion for youth sports – Bryan has coached over 40 of his children’s sports teams, the latest being his 8-year old stepdaughter’s soccer team.
The best advice Bryan ever received? “Be true to yourself, stick to your principles, and always do what you think is right.” Sage advice that fits in perfectly with the PenChecks culture and values!
